Most winter images displayed, were shot the first week of December, prior to the abundant snows and heavy ices of deep winter.

When the scenic white silently begins to drape the majestic natural landscape, days of time seem to stand still. With more vistas revealed now that the foliage has dropped, new possibilities for viewing animals and scenery emerge. Our very local bull moose has a penchant for bellowing on cooler mornings.

Adventure possibilities change as well. With cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing and fantastic ice fishing, the countryside offers gorgeous outdoor sporting activities.

The cooler days are our favorite time of the year here in historic Belgrade. At the Inn with the flickering light of the wood-burning fireplaces, we feel that there is nothing better than watching the snow fly, or listening to the profound silence of a Maine winter.

Whether it is reading a great book in a comfortable historic bed, or simply enjoying the fresh aroma of the bedroom fireplace while relaxing, winter in Maine is memorable.

The fantastic winter sunrise displays…

"Bought me a pair of cowhide boots,
to be prepared for winter walks…
I feel like an armed man now.
The man who has bought his boots feels like him
who has got in his winter's wood.

There they stand beside me in the chamber,
expectant, dreaming of far woods…"
