"A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth's eye! Looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature."
—Henry David Thoreau

Generations of folks have enjoyed the clear, spring-fed glacial lakes which are nestled among the hillsides. Each person seems to have his or her own special reasons for loving these lakes. Long Pond, location of famed Castle Island Camps, has long been the summer home of dedicated fishermen. Canoe and fishing boat rentals here, offer easy access to the quiet waters.

If you take a short drive to Blueberry Hill, you will find a scenic view of Long Pond, Great Pond and Belgrade Lakes Village. This overlook was generously donated by (local legend) General Edmund Hill during the 1960's. You'll find delicious berries for picking during certain weeks of the year. If you prefer strawberries or apples, pick-it-yourself farms are nearby.

Along the old roads, neighbors and farmers offer organic and freshly-grown produce. Then again, there is the local goat farm. Their cheeses rarely last for more than a day in any farmhouse, as they are so wicked good.

Let's go to the Village across the lake…
